Scam alert: a group of delivery men from Dénia warn they have been deceived with fake bills

May 25 from 2022 - 13: 16

Yesterday, several delivery men from Dénia had to deal with several young people who placed orders from a mobile application and then received them avoiding spending a single euro. How? The clients decided to use several counterfeit bills which, after going unnoticed during the first two transactions, forced the alarm to be raised by colleagues and the police. On the third attempt, the last scammer ran into a delivery man already on alert.

The group of Glovo workers, with whom this newspaper has contacted, has warned that all the cases occurred in Glorieta of the Valencian Country and surroundings. In the first two orders they placed with a fast food chain, the delivery men were not aware that they had been cheated with counterfeit bills until the delivery was made. Realizing this, they alerted their companions to be careful.

In both cases they used the same application profile, under what they believe to be a pseudonym. However, they were not content with those two requests. Before the end of the day they were notified that they had received another order from the same account.

The delivery man, aware of what had happened, arrived at the meeting point prepared. When he checked the notes in front of him, he noticed the mark that gave away that they were fake: a "Prop copy" printed on the side. The young alleged criminal ran out of the place dropping the bag with the food.

The victims of this scam have informed the authorities and have spread through social networks what had happened to them. The issuance or distribution of counterfeit banknotes is punishable in Spain with a prison sentence of three to six months or a fine of six to twenty-four months.
