This will be the square of Dénia that will occupy the Marqués de Campo site: a «new Rose Garden» in the center

22 December 2021 - 21: 04

Finally, after creating great expectations in recent days, we already know the project that will occupy the Marqués de Campo site in 2022. The City Council of Dénia has made it public during the afternoon of Wednesday in an act, which has taken place in the Municipal Library, in which other proposals have also been revealed that have been discarded by the score.

A contest of this style is the first time it has been held in Dénia, which the participants have thanked. Vicent GrimaltDuring the event, he assured that it is part of the objective of the government team to recover spaces for people, becoming a priority. In this way, the site of the old ambulatory is most significant, because even though it is small, its location is of great relevance between two large pedestrian arteries, such as Marqués de Campo and Calle La Vía.

This contest has also counted on citizen participation, taking into account the results of surveys that the town hall disseminated among the residents to see what they wanted for that site. According to Grimalt, the aim was to combine the professionalism of architectural firms with citizen participation. People asked for a space that is as green and multifunctional as possible. And so it has been fulfilled.

The project that has been the winner of the contest, among the 15 that have been presented, is designed by the architect Carlos Chacón Pérez. He is an architect from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), a master's degree in gardening and landscaping from the School of Agricultural Engineers of the UPM (2010) and a Master's degree in Advanced Architectural Projects from the UPM (2013 ). His awards for the projects for the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos Vegas Altas de Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz) in 2008, the School of Music and Dance of Ciutadella (2010) and the public space Parque del Kinder in the Mexican city of Mexicali stand out. .

A «new Rose Garden»: meeting point and ready to host events

The architect has Dianense ancestors, his family arriving in the city 150 years ago, so he knows the area well. For this project he was inspired by the old Rosaleda, where families and friends met in a place where they made movies as well as dances. But above all it created community. Based on the mythical space of Dénia, it has created a square that vaguely resembles a Roman forum, with green spaces and designed to be used for a wide range of events, from presentations and awards to fresh movies. In fact, it will have a work platform that facilitates the realization of these. "The residents have not only won a park, but also an event space," pointed out its creator, Carlos Chacón Pérez.

The jury of the contest has been formed by Vicent Grimalt, mayor of Dénia; Cristina Valls Muñoz, architect and member of the Governing Board of the Territorial College of Architects of Alicante (CTAA); Luis Martínez, architect of the Town Hall of Dénia; Nacho Díez Torrijos, agricultural engineer, graduate in Environmental Sciences and master's degree in landscape architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia; Ignacio Martínez Ridruejo, specialist in landscaping and, as secretary, with voice and without vote, the technical engineer of Public Works of the City Council of Dénia, Daniel Ruiz.

The first prize is endowed with 3.000 euros and the award of the contract to carry out the work. In addition, a second and a third prize have been awarded to Estudio Hábito SLP and Álvaro Mateu Sanchís, respectively.

I really like the project, but watching movies in the middle of the city seems low-class to me... I have never seen that in any city... in towns where there is not much commercial activity, it may be in style, but in the middle of one street is fields and one street is via…..please……I hope that idea will never be put into practice…..

A very good project. I agree with Roy that there is a lack of measures to control the problems of dog poop and graffiti that are seen in all parts of Denia.

Yet another “brilliant idea” along with various others - it's about time this Mayor's Office got real Dog s… t, graffiti all over Denia. -get your priorities right As previous comments- we all know it will end up an overgrown wilderness for lowlife to drink and drug out! Merry christmas

Indeed, I don't understand how graffiti (well 'tagging' as there is no attempt in most cases to justify it as a genre of art) is allowed to run riot across the town spoiling some otherwise lovely spots! Also, looking at the 'old' bus station – the planting there is less than wonderful and doesn't bode well for how this area will be kept!

It seems like a very good idea to me, but the question is, will there be a budget for its subsequent maintenance? Or the usual will happen, good ideas and nothing more.

  6. Marilu says:

The great idea, as long as there is maintenance, although seeing the Christmas wilted Easter planters, the sidewalks of cut trees throughout Denia or the balustrade of the Denia / hospital pedestrian path, I doubt they know how to keep it in good condition.

  7. Anthony Carmona says:

A very good idea, with a significant annual cost, to keep the awnings out in the open
In the end unsustainable and you will see how it will not be in conditions

  8. Tricia Lemon says:

Very nice indeed, lovely way to spend a sit down while shopping, please do it quicker than our railway
    Merry Xmas
