The Dénia Carnival: date, place and costume contest

The Carnival in Dénia is one of the mandatory festive events for the little ones in the city. In it they give free rein to their imagination and take to the streets their most original and fun costumes to participate in a contest that is more crowded every year.

When is?

It always takes place on a Saturday afternoon in February, but it doesn't have a fixed date, it varies from year to year. In 2025, the festival will be held on Friday 28 February from 17:30 p.m. to 19:30 p.m.

Where is it celebrated?

The Carnival in Dénia is itinerant since 2016, when the municipal corporation decided that it would change its location annually to take the party to all the neighborhoods of the city. Until then it was celebrated in the center, with a tour of the Calle Marques de Campo and later party in the Plaza del Consell. But with the new party policy, each year is in a different corner.

In 2025, the Carnival will be celebrated in the new Plaça de María Hervás, a square located between Marqués de Campo Street and the Dénia Social Centre.

Costume contest

Previously, the festival in Dénia also had a costume contest that awarded the best and most original by category. In the individual categories, the categories were divided according to age, and prizes were also awarded to the best groups and duos or couples. However, this 2025 there will be no costume contest.

Who can take part?

In the previous edition there was a selection of ages to participate in the contest. The different categories that competed to win the prizes for best costumes were:

• Mini (up to 4 years)
• Child (from 5 to 12 years old)
• Comparsa (groups of 3 to 15 participants, without age limitations)
• Senior (from 60 years old)

Awards

A jury selected by the Festival Committee evaluated the participants and awarded prizes that were usually products provided by different local businesses.

Registration

This year, since there will be no competition, registration will not be necessary.
