Locals and tourists who have walked around inside will have come across a canoe that appears to be Asian and has nothing to do with the place. What is its history?
As soon as you enter the castle gate, in the area accessible only to residents or visitors with a ticket, the slope begins that goes up to the Palau del Governador. But if instead of facing it you turn off to the picnic area on the right, in the lower area of the castle, you can find this boat that doesn't fit in the place.
This boat, about 3 metres long, was part of one of the most important filmings in the city. A Hollywood crew travelled to Dénia to turn it into a Singapore port for the film Krakatoa. East of JavaThe production was ahead of its time, as it focused on the devastating eruption of a volcano when disaster films had not yet taken over the box office.
Although it is a somewhat forgotten film today, at the time it managed to compete in the Oscars for its special effects. And the boat that survives in the castle It serves to remind us of that filming, as it is one of the modified canoes used for the scenes recorded in Dénia.
