The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt and the Councilor for Equality and Diversity, Javier Scotto, have received from the hands of the regional secretary for Equality and Diversity, Rubén Sancho, and the general director of the Valencian Institute for Women, María Such, the Award for inclusive and non-sexist parties.
The award recognizes the involvement of town halls when it comes to carrying out awareness campaigns, adding women to the organization of the festivities and using non-sexist communication with a gender perspective in them. This recognition is accompanied by an economic endowment of 10.000 euros.
Sancho has pointed out that the objective of these awards is to create "leisure spaces within the festive environment that guarantee respect and the principle of non-discrimination of women." The regional secretary affirms that it is necessary to "reinforce the message of social and institutional rejection of violence in the festive and leisure environment."
Scotto wanted to speak as "a man who assumes masculinities and fights alongside women" to explain that "without diversity there will be no social progress, and without inclusion there will be no social justice". He has thanked "the transversal work between the Department of Fiestas and Equality" and the collaboration of the Local Board Fallera de Dénia, Festa Major and the Federation of Moors and Christians (Femmic) to get a festival program “that would promote effective equality between men and women, as well as the fight against inequalities, harassment, assaults and sexual crimes”.
Such, for his part, has highlighted the importance of prevention actions among young people through the purple dots. In addition, she considers that local festive and cultural projects are "necessary to make gender equality visible and increase the representation and participation of women."
In this third edition of the award, like Dénia, three towns in the Valencian Community received the award: Vallada, Bigastro and Vilamarxant.
