Dénia and «carpooling», carpooling to reduce the use of vehicles

22 September 2021 - 11: 39

Dénia commemorates the Car-Free Day within the European Mobility Week by promoting "carpooling" or, in other words, the smart car-sharing system as a sustainable alternative.

To reduce the volume of vehicles in Dénia, the City Council joined the Journify platform in May 2021, now converted into Hoop Carpool. An application that facilitates contact between users in order to share a car.

What is Hoop Carpool for?

The shared car system is aimed at interurban and regional travel. During 2021 they have highlighted, for example, the synergies that have been born mainly within Dénia, Xàbia, Ondara, El Verger, Beniarbeig and even Valencia. The average duration of shared trips has been 10,74 km.

With "carpooling", Dénia aims to help reduce the entry of vehicles into Dénia, lighten the volume of traffic and free up parking spaces. The management of these exchanges through an app wants to facilitate this circular economy, in addition to increasing benefits such as security, information and bonuses for users.

Coinciding with the start of the new course, the town hall and the Hoop Carpool platform are working on a specific action for vehicle sharing among members of the university community.

Positive results of the App

The City Council of Dénia and the Local Police are sharing in their social networks the results of the first months of the pilot experience of the App in Dénia, La Xara and Jesús Pobre.

From May 16 to August 31, 69 people subscribed to Hopp Carpol and 911 shared rides were generated. This equates to 2,35 tons of CO2 emission savings and the liberation of 456 parking spaces.
