This Friday, Dénia Town Hall welcomed sailors Álex Pella, Alberto Muñoz and Alejandro Cantero, who broke the record for the 'Route of Discovery' challenge with the Maxicat Victoria, which follows the original route of Christopher Columbus' first crossing of the Atlantic.
Vicent Grimalt, the mayor of the town, said that having Álex in Dénia is "an honour" and highlighted the presence of Alberto Muñoz from Dénia in his team as a representative of the municipality. After these words, Grimalt gave Pella a plate of posidonia in recognition of his achievements.
"It's been a great year, because in spring we already set the record for the trip around Menorca in 5 hours; in summer, the record for the trip around Spain in 4 days, and now the record for the 'Route of Discovery' in 9 and a half days," said Alex.
Alberto Muñoz has explained that his latest experience on board the Maxicat Victoria is preparation for the great challenge of sailing around the world that they will soon face.
"On the way there we found very good weather conditions and on the way back not so much, but well, it was to be expected," said the Dianense.
Alejandro Cantero said that this new record has confirmed that the work they have been doing over the last year and a half "is going in the right direction."
As an anecdote about this record, the young man wanted to remember the day when the crew was sailing towards the Bahamas and was attacked by flying fish: "It was a massacre, the flying fish crashed into us, one hit Alberto in the face, one hit me in the chest... it was quite funny," he said, accompanied by the laughter of his companions.
Alex is a great and good person.
