The Occupational Center of La Xara denounces non-payments of the Ministry for a value of 420.000 euros

13 June 2022 - 11: 07

The Association for the Mentally Handicapped of Dénia and Comarca (Aprodesco) denounces the Ministry of Equality and Inclusive Policies for non-payment in a total of 5 invoices for the management of the Occupational Center and Day Center "La Xara". 420.000 euros, which includes the payroll of workers, who have not received their full payroll last May.

According to Aprodesco, the Ministry, through its Directorate of Social Infrastructures, has not offered clear and specific information on when or how much it will pay, only advancing that some files are in process. The administration argues that this situation is due to the fact that the contract with the Association has currently expired.

For this reason, until the new contract is signed, scheduled for July, and until the payments are regularized under this new agreement, "we must continue to support the center and pay the staff that cares for people with diversity who come to the the centers", assures the association. All this time involved implies more extensive processes in the management of invoices.

Aprodesco and its work in the Center of La Xara

Aprosdeco is an entity formed by families founded in 1974. Throughout its history it has launched different resources to respond to the needs that have been detected in people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

In these 46 years, other services have been added to the Management of the Occupational Center and Day Center: Sheltered Housing I where 7 women live, Sheltered Housing II in which 6 men live, a Leisure Club and a Special Center for Employment, the Industrial Laundry.

During all these years it has become a benchmark in the region, consolidated and committed to the most vulnerable people. This situation endangers projects such as the reform and start-up of a new Sheltered Housing, very necessary and in demand due to the lack of residential places in the region.

The Occupational Center and Day Center "La Xara" are attended daily by 90 people with intellectual functional diversity and a total of 32 professionals work. The care extends to 90 families throughout the region, for which a total of 12 municipalities are involved.

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE? SHAME DA. The ONLY one in the area and in danger? Shame on politicians who allow this to happen.
