The match of the 19th round of the Third FEB league between the teams Dénia Bàsquet SUMA BPM LIGHTING and Klinik-PM Carolinas had to be played last Saturday in the Municipal Sports Centre pavilion due to the breakdown of the mechanism of one of the baskets on the usual playing court in the Joan Fuster pavilion, which left it out of use.
Both teams had a hard time getting into an offensive dynamic and the score moved very slowly in the first period (13-08).
The visitors took advantage of our team's poor free throw percentage in the first half (6-19) which prevented them from transferring their good play to the scoreboard, giving up a four-point lead to the Alicante team at half-time (28-32).
But Eduardo Clavero and Xavier Díaz had another major problem on Saturday afternoon in the form of injuries to the team.
Richard García, Iván Alexandrov and Soufyane Sadoki joined Jorge Climent on the list of absentees for this important match, and they had to manage more than ever the effort of the available players, among whom were three Juniors: Diego Marín and the brothers Derek and Daniel David, in addition to the usual presence of José Zapata, a starter on this occasion, his teammate in the Junior Preferente team.
With a very brave approach, the hosts outplayed their rivals in a great third period, even having chances to go ahead on the scoreboard, but the fourth fouls in a very short space of time committed by Nacho Ots and Daniel Pérez, cut the team's offensive inertia and allowed Carolinas to return to the game (45-42).
The story of the final period is not far from what happened in previous rounds. The lack of rotation once again meant that there was not enough oxygen to reach the final moments in one piece, and slowly the visitors took an advantage that there was no way to erase, ultimately making them worthy of the victory.
A match with two interpretations. On the one hand, a missed opportunity against a rival that with this victory has the permanence in its hand, but that we competed against at all times and that we were able to overcome. On the other hand, congratulations to the whole team because despite the significant absences and playing on a neutral field, we were in the game until there were barely three minutes left.
In terms of thanks, the club indicates that it would be necessary to start with the fans who followed the team to the sports hall, despite the late hour at which the match had to start. In this sense, we would also like to thank SCD Carolinas for their understanding at all times and the efforts made by the Dénia City Council and the Basketball Federations, both Spanish and Valencian, for the facilities offered to be able to play this match.
Next week, the Dianense club will visit one of the most complicated courts of the season, Rigalli Alginet, one of the favourites of the group to make the cut and qualify for the promotion phase to Second FEB, a category from which it was relegated last season. The match is scheduled for Sunday, March 9 at 18:00 p.m. at the Alginet Municipal Pavilion, now reopened after the damage suffered in the Dana last October that kept it out of service for several weeks.
The team from Dianense will also be paying attention to what happens on the court of Real Murcia, which will host Lucentum Alicante, and the visit to Benidorm of ADESAVI de San Vicent del Raspeig. With six games left, many things can still happen and all those involved in the relegation are still depending on themselves to achieve permanence.
In the match against Carolinas the following played and scored: José Zapata (4) Nacho Ots (7), Daniel Perez (14), Jordi Soler (8) and Adrian Perez (6) – starting five – Adrian Vives (-) Diego Marin (-), Daniel David (-), Derek David (-) and Miquel Server (15).
