Last weekend was a very positive one for the DBC senior teams, with key victories in both the women's and men's categories.
Regional Women's Senior: Helike Bàsquet 32-44 DBC
The Senior Women's team achieved a valuable victory in their trip to Elx, beating Helike Bàsquet (32-44) at the start of the second round of the regional competition. The match was crucial to move away from the relegation zone and it was not an easy task, as the local team showed great resistance.
The first half was a tie, reflected in the 17-21 score at half-time. In the third period, the visitors managed to extend their lead with a 4-11 run, reaching an 11-point difference. However, the home team reacted and reduced the lead to six points after a time-out. Despite the lack of success in outside shooting, DBC managed to keep calm and secure victory with a game based on penetration and one-on-one play.
Next Sunday, the team will host Cabo Mar Alicante in a key match to consolidate its position in the middle of the table.
Senior Male 1st Zone: DBC 94 – 80 Cullera
The men's team had a great match on Saturday at the Joan Fuster pavilion, where they beat Cullera (94-80), a rival that occupied second place in the standings and that had only lost one match in the competition to date.
DBC took the initiative in the first half, leading by 14 points at half-time thanks to good ball circulation on offense and solid defense. However, the visiting team reacted in the second half with intense defense, forcing numerous turnovers that allowed them to tie the game in the final minutes and force overtime.
In overtime, DBC regained its best form and achieved a partial score of 19-5 that definitively decided the match, achieving a highly prestigious victory.
Senior Men 1st Zone: DBC 68 – 59 Algemesí
In the second match of the weekend, the Senior Men's team achieved another victory against Algemesí (68-59), in a postponed match corresponding to the last day of the first round.
Despite facing an opponent who had only managed one victory this season, the match was not easy. The physical strain of the previous day and the improvement in the game of the Valencians, who had seen their preparation affected by the DANA, posed a challenge for the local team.
DBC started with little energy, conceding easy baskets and showing difficulties in attack. After a timeout in the first minutes, the team adjusted its defense and increased the pace of play, managing to close the first quarter with a one-point advantage and increasing the difference to 11 at halftime.
In the second half, Algemesí came back closer on the scoreboard thanks to its strength in the inside game, but DBC managed to maintain a stable 10-point lead until the end of the match, thus securing another victory.
Next weekend, the team will visit the court of L'Ollería, a rival that is tied with Cullera in second place and that left a great impression in its visit to Dénia in the first round.
