Dénia Hospital launches a "School of Pain" for patients with chronic discomfort

20 June 2022 - 12: 27

The new School of Pain Hospital de Dénia It is based on a Neuroscience in Pain Education program that offers the patient an explanation of the processes by which their body generates pain and tools for active coping. For this reason, it is aimed at patients suffering from chronic pain referred by the specialist doctors of the hospital.

The methodology has proven to be very effective in reducing or even, on some occasions, eliminating pain. The main objective is to improve the quality of life; reduce the body areas affected and the intensity of the pain so that patients resume activities of their daily life that they have abandoned due to the pain and the emotional state in which they are immersed.

The school was born from the need to expand therapeutic alternatives aimed at a comprehensive approach to pain. According to Dr. Marta Carrió, head of the Pain Unit: “implementing this program in the multidisciplinary plan is going to be essential to understand what is happening to them and will allow them to dare to recover the activity they had before beginning their history with the pain".

The intervention follows a structured group methodology of 5 consecutive weekly sessions and a sixth recall session, which will take place one month after the fifth. To obtain a positive result, patients must attend all sessions. The workshops address aspects of the neurobiology of pain and activities to increase attention and body awareness.

Everything that the Denia hospital does for its patients seems fine to me, it's about time they treat us like we are sick PEOPLE, but there is a section that I think needs more attention due to the seriousness of the people who go to treatment and I I am referring to the chemotherapy room, totally insufficient in its capacity and means, the staff makes every effort but it is clear that everything is lacking, seats, IV drips, space and more staff, Mr. and Mrs. de la Ribera, I ask you on behalf of all the patients with CANCER that please facilitate our passage through this our room of pain and hope thank you.﷼
