The 'Dénia, en Moviment' programme, launched by the City Council on 13 May, has had a positive impact on the health and well-being of its participants. This project, aimed at the medical prescription of physical activity as a tool to improve health, has had the collaboration of the Ministries of Health, Culture and Sports, as well as the involvement of professionals from the Public Health Area of Dénia.
It was the health professionals at the Health Centre who were responsible for referring patients to this programme, as prescribed by a doctor, where a physical trainer planned the guidelines for activities and exercise to be carried out.
According to the report provided by the Sports Department, during the months of June to September 2024, a total of 65 interviews were conducted at the Dénia City Council, which made it possible to understand the needs and conditions of the participants, and to adapt the sessions to their individual characteristics. Of the total number of participants, 22 men and 43 women were referred to the Physical Activity and Exercise Unit (UAEF), while 9 men and 19 women completed the program.
'En Moviment' has had a significant participation according to the different age groups. 4,3% of the participants are under 50 years old, and it was observed that all of them actively participate in the sessions. Meanwhile, 17,4% of the participants are in the age group of 50 to 60 years, where a favourable disposition towards the programme has been seen. This indicates a great opportunity to raise awareness for this group, highlighting the importance of physical activity in preventing cardiovascular diseases, muscle weakness and joint wear, to avoid complications as they age.
The largest group is in the 61-70 age group, representing 52,2% of participants. Many of these participants suffer from muscle and joint weakness, as well as the after-effects of previous illnesses and injuries. In addition, 26,1% of participants are over 70 years old, a group that has demonstrated a high commitment to the program, carrying out the activities consistently.
The programme has paid special attention to the needs of participants with various pathologies. Four main groups have been identified: diabetes, cancer, cardiopulmonary problems and joint or muscle pain.
Rafa Carrió, Councillor for Health, has stated that in 2025 the programme will continue with the same and new groups, and with the aim of reaching more people, thanks to the great involvement of medical professionals with the programme.
«Sport is the best prevention and the best medicine. This has been demonstrated by the impact of 'Dénia, en Moviment', which has been very positive in various aspects, such as the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits, the improvement of physical and mental health, or the promotion of social cohesion and teamwork, among others. In short, we are very happy because we are educating the population about the importance of combating a sedentary lifestyle, offering varied and fun activities adapted to various pathologies,» said Carrió.
