25 2023 April - 19: 36

The first four cities that have already completed the process of full integration into the Spanish Association of Creative Cities of UNESCO, among which is Dénia, have held this Monday in Manises the first formal assembly with the aim of accelerating the incorporation of the cities who are processing their income.

The association was formally established last September in Dénia at a meeting that coincided with the celebration of the D*na Gastronomic Festival.

Once the association was constituted with the first four members (Dénia, Manises, Llíria and Burgos), in the first assembly the statutes have been modified in order to facilitate the entry of more Spanish cities and, in this way, favor the incorporation of new members . The next member that will become part of the association will be Granada.

Among the topics to be discussed was the meeting of Spanish Creative Cities of 2023, which will take place after the summer in Valladolid, as well as the commitment to carry out another national meeting with the impetus of the UNESCO national commission and the Ministry of Culture in Madrid.

The assembly was attended Vicent Grimalt, mayor of Denia; Floren Terrades, Dénia focal point; Vicente Marañón de Pablo, Deputy Mayor of Burgos; Raquel Puente, focal point of Burgos, Juan Manuel Miguel, mayor of Llíria; Francesc García, Councilor for Tourism of Llíria; Vicent Sesé, focal point of Llíria; Jesús Borràs, mayor of Manises; Àngel Mora, Manises Councilor for Tourism; Xavier Morant, Councilor for the Promotion of Ceramics in Manises; Marisé Guillen, Manises focal point and David Prieto, Manises Tourism technician.

The Creative Cities Network was launched by UNESCO in October 2004, following a decision taken by the 170th Executive Council. Its objective is to stimulate international cooperation between cities that invest in creativity as a motor for sustainable urban development, social inclusion and cultural influence, thus promoting UNESCO's objectives regarding cultural diversity to be worked on the ground.

There are currently 10 Spanish cities integrated into the UNESCO network: Seville (Music, 2006), Bilbao (Design, 2014), Granada (Literature, 2014), Burgos (Gastronomy, 2015), Denia (Gastronomy, 2015), Barcelona (Li, 2015), Terrassa (Cinema, 2017), Llíria (Music, 2019), Valladolid (Cinema, 2019) and Manises (Crafts and Popular Arts, 2021).
