The beach Marineta Cassiana Dénia will have twice as many “smoke-free” meters this summer this summer season. For this reason, the non-smoking space in the Marge Roig area of the beach has been increased from 700 meters to 1.300 meters.
The Councilor for Public Health of the Dénia City Council, Rafa Carrió, and the councilor of Beach, Pepe Doménech, this morning they raised the identifying flag of “smokeless beach” in Marineta Cassiana. The goal is for the beach to end up becoming a healthy beach.
The initiative aims to ensure a healthy space for bathers and reduce pollution from cigarette butts by prohibiting smoking in the area. «The objective is to avoid pollution, by eliminating smoke and cigarette butts, and to promote health, above all avoiding passive smoking. We do not want the beach to be an ashtray and the sea a garbage dump, that is why we ask people for diligence and civility," said Rafa Carrió.
The “smoke-free beach” signage is made up of the flag, donated by the Generalitat Valenciana, which has been raised at the beginning of the Marineta Cassiana and there will also be two signs that will say “Smoke-free beach”, as well as an indicative sign.
For his part, Doménech highlighted that “every day there is more demand for smoke-free beaches. People want there to be more and more beaches, more stretches of smoke-free beach, and as last year we announced that the intention was to increase the smoke-free area, this year we wanted to make this expansion, which is in the southern part of Dénia and now we are studying for the future to make another stretch of smoke-free beach, in the northern part of the city.
This is the fourth summer that this beach has received the distinction that certifies adherence to the “Smoke-free Beaches” campaign, awarded by the Department of Health of the Generalitat. The initiative aims to ensure a healthy space for bathers and reduce pollution from cigarette butts by prohibiting smoking in the area.
