Baleària, the main shipping company in Spain, and Eurone, a company specialising in connectivity solutions, have joined forces to offer their passengers a pioneering internet access service. This advanced system combines Wi-Fi connection and Hispasat GEO and Starlink LEO satellite links, significantly optimising the connectivity experience on board.
Thanks to this innovative solution in the maritime sector, users can enjoy a Faster internet connection and with lower latency while browsing. This allows them to not only browse the web, but also access streaming platforms to enjoy audiovisual content.
Currently, this new service is already Available on four of the company's vessels: the fast ferries Margarita Salas and Eleanor Roosevelt, which cover routes between the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and the ferries Marie Curie and Sicilia, which connect Huelva with the Canary Islands. In the future, Baleària plans to implement this technology on more ships in its fleet.
By integrating these technologies, Eurona offers a comprehensive solution that covers all the connectivity needs of Baleària passengers, positioning this service as a benchmark in the market.
Francisco Abril, IT infrastructure director at Baleària, highlights that this initiative represents a great improvement in the on-board experience: "This technology allows you to carry out activities that until recently were unthinkable, such as participating in virtual meetings, taking full advantage of social networks or watching streaming content smoothly during the ferry trip."
For its part, Fernando Ojeda, CEO of Eurona, stresses that "this agreement marks a decisive step towards ensuring that connectivity at sea reaches the same level and quality as that which we enjoy at home. It also reinforces a strategic collaboration that we have maintained with Baleària for more than seven years, consolidating our position as leaders in maritime communications."
