One Wall will be playable for the first time in Dénia: the modality that has won over fans from all over the world is here

February 15 from 2025 - 08: 00

The Councillor for Sports and Youth, Valen Alcala, has announced that, for the first time, One Wall matches will be played in Dénia thanks to the opening of three new courts in the sports centre, a Valencian pilota modality that is gaining ground internationally. In fact, the Valencian regional channel À Punt has also highlighted this global growth of the modality with its documentary series Sacha to New York, which follows a young Valencian pilota player who has taken this sport to different corners of the world.

The origin of One Wall dates back to the game of Frontó, but what distinguishes it is its adaptation to smaller, urban environments, making it an ideal option for introduction in other countries and in Physical Education classes in schools.

As we said, Dénia will now have three courts for practising this discipline for the first time, which are being finished in the sports centre.

Valen Alcalà, in conversations with this newspaper, explained that this decision to install the courts was the result of conversations with the pilota club, the municipal pilota school and the pilota federation, who pointed out that One Wall is becoming increasingly popular around the world due to its accessibility and versatility with the ball, whether Valencian, Basque or Swiss. In addition, this modality can contribute to the Valencian youth academy, which includes young people from Dénia and other towns in the region. the Marina Alta can try this variant of the pilota.

Regarding the future of the facilities, the councillor has announced that, in March, a day of Valencian pilota will be organised between the institutes of Dénia, in which they will play One Wall. "It will be the first time that this sport forms part of the MiniJocs in schools in the town," said Alcalà, adding that activities such as raspall and One Wall matches are planned.

As for the renovations to the sports centre, Alcalà has told us that there is still work to be done. Although the new courts are already in operation, there are other facilities that need improvements, such as the access doors, the changing rooms and the fronton stands. "There is still a long way to go, but we are working to get everything ready," he said.

Those from the fronton were thrown out, those from the soccer field had more players, now only a few go, those from the frontenis couldn't wear shoes with black soles but those from the soccer field had no problems, in the end people got bored and stopped discriminating, I know this well because I was enjoying these sports, thanks for getting rid of the fronton and frontenis to those who were in charge back then, thank you very much.

One Wall? Frontón has always been a good sport. Enough of using anglicisms. They didn't even invent it... Frontón, Pilota Valenciana, Pelota Vasca. Playing it in any urban space has always been done, ever since we kids used to play in the streets.
