A resident of Dénia in charge of 2 "disabled seagulls" achieves 33.000 signatures to protect the stray bird

May 04 from 2023 - 13: 47

A neighbor from Dénia has captured the attention of the regional press for her love and care for two "disabled seagulls" who cannot fly. With the aim of raising awareness about the importance of caring for and protecting animals, the woman has shared her experience of living with these birds in her home and has started a campaign to protect stray birds in the municipality.

The woman, who has been an environmentalist and activist since she was a child, has shown how she cares for birds at home and explained that seagulls are as easy to care for as any other bird, but they cannot coexist with other species of animals. In fact, she has been placing drinkers for some time so that the seagulls can use it on her terrace. She was also the architect of a request to the Dénia City Council so that it would not sacrifice the seagulls that occupy the castle during the pandemic, since, according to this neighbor, "they are a natural spectacle that attracts many tourists and children."

Manages to collect 33.000 signatures "so they don't get killed"

The women's initiative has been a great success, with more than 33.000 signatures in support of the Valencian Community. In addition, the experience of care and coexistence with seagulls is being used as material for studies and research in collaboration with biologists and oceanographic technicians.

The woman has stated that her goal is to raise awareness in society about the importance of caring for and protecting animals, and that stray birds deserve the same respect and attention as any other living being. With her initiative, she hopes to inspire more people to take action to protect animals and the environment.

There are already two pigeons that the seagulls have killed on my terrace.

It seems good to me to help a needy or invalid seagull... it is an isolated case but the costs are charged by oneself. Both from the vet and from getting rid of the body once it dies. Since in nature, no matter how ecologist one is, only the strongest survive... and hence they would already be dead.

Despite this, there is also an excess of seagulls, which is why a year or two ago, after another seagull ate a pigeon in the gazebo and tourists who were attacked in the castle causing minor head injuries, they decided to reduce their population by poking the eggs. . Not letting them reproduce. We must not forget that they are necessary for the ecosystem since they eat everything fulfilling the cleaning role.

I subscribe to the initiative to protect all animals. But, precisely, that defense of the seagulls grinds a beak. They are aggressive animals. They have been seen attacking and eating turtle doves and other species, they attack people and are terribly dirty. These animals must be in their natural habitat, that is, near the sea on breakwaters and cliffs, not in the castle or in schoolyards. this is my humble opinion

Totally agree. And who protects us from them, from the shit, dirt, etc. etc

  6. Luis says:

The initiative to protect animals is fantastic.
But precisely the seagulls of the castle that have the entire area at the top where the museum is. Full of shit on the floor, railings, stairs and not to mention that in the afternoons there are pieces of fish on the floor and they attack people who visit the castle. It seems to me that it is too much to protect that species that lives in the sea and chases the fishing boats near the coasts, which is where they should be and not in the schoolyards after the children finish their recess and they launch themselves. to devour and shit everywhere.

Children often leave pieces of bread and cold cuts in the yard. I was one of those Marist children. I left him
And the seagulls, as I said in the previous comment, usually play the role of cleaning. They run away from the children.
In order for them to be attacked, they would have to go near their nests during the breeding season... any living being protects their children.
