On the one hand, the Dénia Foundation has given the portrait of Fray Andrés Llorens, uncle and tutor of the artist and the person who enrolled him in the school of the Valencian painter Vicente López Portaña, as explained by Josep A. Gisbert, director of the Ethnological Museum. The people who have guarded this work, until it was incorporated into the municipal heritage, are the children of Elisa Ausina Domènech, a relative of Roc Chabàs, who inherited the painting when the canon of Diane, a friend of the portrait, died in 1912.

Secondly, a second portrait of the painter Llorens is now part of the exhibition at the museum on Calle dels Cavallers: the painting by Vicente Romany Sentí, given by the relatives Amparo Romany Boix and Enrique Romany Puig. With this incorporation, Gisbert has highlighted, "the Ethnological Museum already treasures in its collection eleven portraits of personages representing Dianense society from the last third of the XNUMXth century".

The Councilor for Culture, Raúl García de la Reina, thanked the donors "for the generosity that shows a way of understanding art as a heritage of humanity." A conception of artistic heritage "as the wealth of a people that must be preserved and shared", added the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, "which is the first step to avoid losing it."

The donations of the two works by the painter Llorens are part of the program of activities around the International Museum Day, on May 18. Within this set of proposals, aimed at bringing the museums of Dénia closer to the public, on Sunday, the 16th, there will be a guided visit to the Ethnological Museum where the public will already be able to contemplate the two new portraits.
