27 October 2023 - 09: 38

The second edition of Dénia starts Festival of the Humanities, which, from October 26 to 28, will bring together prominent national and international experts in various disciplines of knowledge in the Alicante city of Dénia, to reflect on the challenges that human beings face today.

The official opening ceremony of the festival took place this afternoon at the Multiespai L'Androna Baleària Port and has been chaired by the general director of Books, Comics and Reading, María José Gálvez. In her appearance, Gálvez highlighted "the courage of the organizers of this festival, so necessary for the reflection of all citizens." Because "reality, current affairs and the present have to be the object of reflection and told to the citizens," added Gálvez.

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, in his role as host, welcomed this new edition of the Humanities Festival with a speech full of reflection. Echoing the current situation in the Middle East, he highlighted that “lack of mercy is ruling the destiny of many people. "We couldn't open a Humanities festival without looking horror in the eye, before sitting down to talk about how to make this a better world." With an enriching approach, Grimalt explained that "this festival aspires to expand the power of the Humanities, so that empathy, solidarity and justice are the guiding principles of the societies of the future."

Furthermore, the Dianense mayor added that the festival "has been and is the opportunity to develop a more ambitious project, throughout the year, in which cooperation and alliances between public, university, training, business institutions , cultural and social, make this project transcend Dénia and the Valencian Community.

An epicenter of humanist reflection

The academic director of the festival has expressed himself in this same sense, Joseph Ramoneda, who stressed in his inaugural speech that "the current reality makes the need to reflect from the perspective of the humanities even more imperative." He has also referred to the need to connect the sciences and the humanities, in a historical moment of great change, where "technological and scientific progress is accelerated and is transforming the structural bases of the world." For this reason, he invites you to enjoy this festival, which he has described as "a festival of curiosity, which is the main engine of knowledge, and therefore, of thought."

In addition to those mentioned, the territorial designation senator, Ximo Puig, the deputy delegate of the Government in Alicante, Carlos Sánchez, the deputy delegate of Roads of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Arturo Poquet, as well as various mayors of the region and representatives of collaborating entities.

Livaneli warns about the danger of racist democracies in Europe

After its official opening, the inaugural session of this meeting was held, which featured an exceptional speaker, the renowned writer and political activist Zülfü Livaneli, considered one of the most important Turkish cultural figures of our time.

In his presentation Literature against democracy-racism, Livaneli has highlighted the ability of humanistic disciplines such as literature to "help soften tensions and humanize people in historical conflicts", highlighting "the crucial role of literature in creating mutual understanding between societies." Furthermore, she has warned that "there is a high probability that European countries will become racist democracies." He assures Livanelli that to resist this threat it is necessary to use empathy and artistic expressions as tools to show the humanity of those we call immigrants. "If Goethe's dream of a world literature had come true, the world would be a better place," concluded the Turkish writer.

The second session of the festival has brought together the academic director of the event, Josep Ramoneda, together with the philosopher and writer Chiara Bottici and the journalist and director of External Relations at the Ibero-American General Secretariat, Cristina Manzano, to reflect on the past and future of the ideologies.

This second edition of Dénia Festival de les Humanitats revolves around a common idea Look back to know where we are going. This theme will channel the debate sessions, talks and cultural activities scheduled until next Saturday in various locations in Dénia.

They eat and drink empathy and justice later, everything is paid for with public money. Do they already have red shrimp for so many empathetic people?

  2. Raul says:

As? Festival of what?? Because they don't use the budget of this event to help needy families in Denia, there is poverty here!!! This is how the socialists spend it, a lot of gallery, a lot of event but NOTHING empathy!

Evident leftist bias that now seeks to monopolize humanism. They will have realized that communism no longer works and does not buy votes. And always disqualifying those who do not think like them and look at them with contempt from their supposed intellectual superiority.
