11 March 2024 - 13: 31

The Dénia City Council has presented this Monday in a press conference two awareness campaigns aimed at those citizens who dirty the streets by not collecting the urine and excrement of their pets and those who get rid of old furniture by throwing them into the containers. The Councilor for Cleaning and Animal Welfare, Sandra Gertrúdix, and the Councilor for Citizen Security, Javier Scotto They have emphasized the additional cost that these practices entail for society.

One of the initiatives, Brutea, consists of posters in the style of IKEA advertisements, with furniture lying on the street and the name of the furniture simulating Swedish, for example, "FÄSTIK" or "ÄSKITO", to publicize that it is This is a practice that should not be carried out and, in addition, the phone number to call is provided if you want to get rid of belongings.

Sandra Gertrúdix explained that throughout the day about 2.400 kilos of junk are collected in the town on a regular basis, which reaches 7.200 in high season. In this sense, the councilor has highlighted that, despite there being 50 locations for furniture collection, only 15 are the City Council notified; In high season, 150 locations are available, but only 40 report. “This is making it difficult to make trips to pick up the furniture,” she said.

Gertrúdix has also reported that this service involves an annual cost of 300.000 euros, "resources that cannot be used for other activities if we have to collect belongings," he added.

On the other hand, several posters have been created to denounce the failure to collect excrement and the failure to clean pet urine, with the presence of a QR that informs about the regulations and the corresponding fines. In addition, dogs from shelters have been used for the campaign and, therefore, the website appears for those interested in adopting.

"Incivility has a cost for municipal coffers and we all pay for it," explained Scotto, who highlighted that there is "budgetary pressure" as a result of the deterioration of public elements due to urine: the renovation of a bollard involves 72 euros; that of a paper mill, 185; a bench, 441 euros, and a new street lamp, 941 euros. He has also mentioned that 30% of the plants are lost for the same reason, along with vandalism.

The councilor recalled that there are 71 totems distributed throughout Dénia, with 500 bags each, so that owners can collect their pets' excrement, which represents a total of 40.000 bags per month, therefore, "there are no excuses for those who say they have no means.

Scotto has explained that the fines that this type of infractions entail can reach up to 750 euros and has emphasized that not carrying a bottle to dissolve the pet's urine also implies an infraction and a report. “It is about promoting being better people while complying with civility,” he concluded.

Well, on this occasion I congratulate the City Council, I am one of those who made this proposal and I hope that the owners comply, the animals cannot know that their owners are irresponsible and not very clean (I do not want to insult or offend, it does not missing), and also urine and excrement spread diseases and bacteria)
