An amateur diving is the remains of a sunken boat from S.XIX Beach Marine

30 June 2011 - 15: 21

At the beginning of the month, the Archaeological Museum of Dénia was warned by Jean Castera, a diving enthusiast in Dénia, of a new discovery on the Dianense coast. It is the remains of a ship sunk to 700 meters from the coast and 3 meters deep.

The remains found make suppose that it was a medium-sized boat from the south of Spain, in the first half of the nineteenth century and used to transport goods.

The museum's director, Josep Antoni Gisbert, the most important of the archaeological site is the state of conservation of the architecture of the ship. The scarcity of other materials, some pottery shards and a bottle containing gin points to the possibility that the ship carrying goods were recovered after the sinking of its proximity to the coast and the shallowness of the area.

In deference to the discoverer of the vessel, they have named Jeannot.
