On Thursday the constitution of the Dénia Scientific Committee took place Festival of the Humanities, the event promoted by the Dénia Ciutat Creativa Foundation, which has the active participation of AETHMA, CEDMA, Baleària and the Dénia City Council. The committee, made up of prominent personalities and representatives of various institutions, is responsible for designing the lines of action for the third edition of the festival, scheduled for October 2024, as well as supervising activities throughout the year.
Chaired by the mayor of Dénia and president of the Foundation, Vicent Grimalt, the scientific committee has the participation of Cristina Sellés, president of AETHMA, Benito Mestre, president of CEDMA, Pepa Font, as representative of the Generalitat, Rafa Carrió, vice mayor and patron of the foundation, representatives of universities and educational centers, members of the City Council and relevant figures in the field of humanities. Its mission is to guarantee the coherence and quality of programmed activities, based on fundamental values such as cooperation, transversality, diversity and plurality.
At the constitution ceremony, Mayor Grimalt highlighted that the Dénia Ciutat del Pensament program seeks to turn the city into a reference in the debate of ideas and thought. The vision includes the development of a multicampus that covers all Valencian public universities, the UNED, and training levels from primary to secondary.
The scientific committee, in its first meeting, approved the lines of work for next year. These lines include the exploration of the archaeological heritage and knowledge of the territory, the Crossovers project on the relationships between Sea, Science and Literature, a year dedicated to Maria Ibars, Social Sciences, Humanities and Business, activities of the Vice-Rector's Office for Art, Science, Technology and Society, Politics and Society, as well as Emotional Education and Mental Health.
These lines will be developed throughout the year through workshops, seminars and courses, culminating with the tables at the Dénia Festival de les Humanitats in October. The complete program, which will also include the Spring Festival, will be submitted for approval at the beginning of January, after a meeting with the academic management of the Festival, represented by La Maleta de Portbou.
A bigger and bigger festival
The Dénia Festival de les Humanitats, as the central activity of the Dénia, Ciutat del Pensament program, has experienced significant growth. The 2023 edition attracted 1.926 attendees to the October sessions, representing a growth of 56,84% compared to the 2022 edition. The collaboration with universities and the active participation of the community support the consolidation of this project that seeks to position Dénia as a reference in the field of humanities.
I would say that whoever has proposed the lines of action is a denier of Climate Change, the destruction of Biodiversity or the denial of pollution…. Does this "Scientific Committee" not know that the planet is in pieces?

Can a decisive and agile committee also be created for the basic and necessary actions of ordinary citizens?
What is all this for? How does all the money used revert back to society?
Go with the scientific committee, in my opinion the only ones missing there are the Falleros and the Festeros.
All this to justify the expense of nonsense like a philosophy symposium in Denia?
There are two thirds of them left over, that is, political officials who don't even know where they will be next year, and those who have thrown in their money to see if they can get a cut.
Denia needs adequate housing and conditions for its citizens to live, the philosophy for free time afterwards.
Have you not thought that perhaps if in Denia we had more critical thinking, we would resolve these issues better?
